Keep Seniors Safe at Home
Hours:
Healthy Seniors of Steele County is improving the quality of the physical and emotional lives of our seniors. We connect you to resources and volunteers which allows your loved one to remain living independently. One of the ways we do this is through our Fall Prevention Assessments.
Fall Prevention In-Home Exercise Program is a designed to help decrease the number of falls for seniors to maintain independence in their own home.

It took a few months for us to meet Don and his wife. Don is legally blind due to a stroke, and his wife is his constant caregiver. Don’s daughter originally called Healthy Seniors looking for respite care, but his wife was not comfortable having anyone come into their home. After Don had a couple of falls, his wife agreed to have Healthy Seniors come in to their home and provide an exercise program with him to strengthen his legs. Once a week, Healthy Seniors Health & Wellness Coordinator went to do exercises with Don, do a fall prevention assessment of their home, and do small chores for them. The exercises became easier as Don gained strength in his legs, so resistance bands were added for additional benefits. As Don’s legs got stronger, he was able to get out of chairs easier and go for walks outside. Also, after a short time with the Healthy Partners program, Don’s wife was open to having a volunteer come in to provide respite. He visits with Don or takes him places in town so she could have a break from caregiving. Don enjoys spending time with his new friend, and his wife can get out and enjoy some time on her own while having the peace of mind that Don is taken care of.
"Falls in the elderly remain a leading cause of death and disability. Education on fall prevention is crucial to decreasing the incidence of falls and the associated injuries.” – Scott Zietlow, M.D. Trauma Surgeon Mayo Clinic
'' Richard's doctor noticed a difference with his labs in the appointment after his fall prevention/ home exercises. He was told to keep up with what he was doing.''
“Imagine if you could help our Steele County seniors live independently and remain engaged in their community.”
